It has been Angela’s pleasure to participate in and contribute to Rome’s music collective for the past 20 years. Prior to the arrival of her children, she was the vocal coach for the musicals at Darlington Upper School (1998-2004). Locally, she played Annelle in Steel Magnolias (2001), The Witch in Into the Woods (2002), Lily in The Secret Garden (2004), and performed in the productions of Songs for a New World, Civil War and An Evening with Sinatra (all conducted by Sam Baltzer).
Angela has sung with several local ensembles including the Rome Chamber Singers under the direction of Dr. John Ratledge, Applescraps, The Georgians, The Clocktower Jazz Band and several corporate event entertainment bands. She graduated from The University of Georgia in 1992 with a degree in music therapy. A job opportunity at Northwest Georgia Regional Hospital brought her to Rome, where she lives with her husband and amazing musician, Ben McRee, and homeschools her two sons. She teaches music lessons and provides music therapy services at Musikworks Studio and coordinates and coaches the youth praise band at Cornerstone Church of Rome.
She is proud to have contributed to RLT’s productions of Annie (about 15 years ago), Annie (more recently), Give my Regards to Broadway, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, Hairspray, The Little Mermaid Jr., Legally Blonde, Beauty and the Beast and Addams Family the Musical. Angela taught the musical theater portion of the 2015, 2016 and 2017 RLT summer workshops, and is the musical director of Grand Finale, Rome High School’s show choir. She also provides vocals for projects at The Temple, a professional recording studio. Though performing and teaching music is intrinsically rewarding, watching her sons develop their musical abilities has been her greatest joy and achievement.
Favorite quote from Dr. Maria Montessori:
“Now, what really makes a teacher is love for the human child; for it is love that transforms the social duty of the educator into the higher consciousness of a mission.”
